- What is a flux?
- Removing impurities in the molten steel is very a critical factor of determining quality of steel in steelmaking process.
To remove impurities in the molten steel, in other words phosphorous, sulfur, oxygen and oxide inclusion, the raw materials or compounds which have good reactivity with the impurities are added to make a chemical compound, and this compound condenses, floats and separates to remove impurities.
Therefore, a use of proper flux to remove each impurity is essential to produce high quality of steel.
